RHP is older than Facebook, it’s one of the internet’s earliest websites. Its true I looked it up on one of Metal Brain’s go-to mega-info resources.
Russ, and I believe also Chris (Chrismo) created the website in Russ’ parents garage Los Altos California using the money they raised from Chris selling his camper van and Russ selling his 1/1000 model of the Apollo 11 Saturn V.
This thread is for recounting various memories about RHP, especially the forums, but also other things which might come to mind.
I remember (Suzianne will challenge my memory) my first ever RHP post.
I asked how to turn off email notifications of opponent’s moves.
The first person to reply was Trev33, who immediately took the piss out of me. This was my first experience of the forums. And that is 100% accurate and true.

The Portuguese almost managed to swing the 2016 election in the U.S. Hillary Clinton's way using disinformation propagated by "useful idiots" here on the General Forum but, in the end, the Russians had their way.
By the mid naughties the social media thing was in full flow and a power struggle at RHP has resulted in several forum bannings and a partisan division into two opposing forum groups; The Silent Majority (TSM) and the Public Forum Contributors (PFC), led by @Red-Night and @phlabibit

A war of words ensued.
Now those were fun times with lots of bans! 🙂
I was part of TSM by the way, in case memory fails you! 🙂

Here's how it looked after being online for about 1 month.
We didn't have any forum yet.
Ruzz and Chrismo were still working on a few glitches, as well.
The first forum came along just a few weeks later, but was totally different than what we now have. (There were no moderators at first either.)

Some people are nostalgic about that era and its "war of words" and yet don't like contemporary "wars of words".
@fmfsaid And you created the new FMF in your lab in the Autumn of 2021.
What became of old FMF.
Is he a shambling dishevelled automaton sat on a park bench waiting for Godot.
Or did he buy a bungalow in Croydon and join the local bowls club?
@very-rustysaid Didn't really need any back then though did you?

Actually, it didn't take very long at all.
Things started just fine, but within a short period of time things got pretty ugly, and finally got to the point where the forums were totally shut down.
They stayed shut down for a while, and then the new forum was brought in and it included the first moderators.
