He shot the guy when he was outside the house and running away.
In the civilised world that would be illegal.

    That is true.
    If he was an adult.
The guy came into his home and said "I'm gonna kill you fu&&er" and he's burglarized the house before so I reckon the cops will wink at him being shot by the kid.
    Wouldn't you?

How is it "civilized" that a criminal fleeing a felony should be let go?

After breaking into the home and threatening to kill the 11 year old I don't have a problem with the kid doing what he did.

    No.
An 11 year-old shooting a fleeing burglar in the UK would face prosecution.

Nobody is talking about "letting him go".
We (the civilised world) don't use unnecessary force.
Stealing is just stuff - you cannot endanger a life because of it.

Even 18th Century Britain didn't kill thieves - we sent them on holiday to Australia.

You are wrong in this - the use of capital punishment was notoriously promiscuous in eighteenth-century Britain and imposed even for fairly trivial crimes. Until 1832, a thief could be sentenced to death for the theft of goods worth as little as a shilling! Having said that, these sentences for minor offences were rarely carried out in practice.

yes, shoot him. that's the appropriate punishment for burglary. no need to involve cops/judges/juries either.

However you think about that issue, it happens on every continent and every country somewhere. One thing to note: The perp was only shot in the leg. He wasn't killed, not that that has anything to do with it, the kid just shot blindly and it was blind luck it didn't go through the guy's heart. I think he said the bullet went through the ice chest so that reduced any damage it would have done to a human. Again, blind luck.

But why is there a debate about this, no the perp was not in the house but yes, he was still on their property AND carrying property not his.

So suppose on that property the perp attempted to take something valuable, not in the house. I don't know, an air conditioner, whatever.

You are not allowed to stop him when he is inside your own yard?

Years ago in the UK a burglar sued a house owner for having a dangerously untidy garden.
    A bit extreme.
The point is you cannot react with disproportionate force.
You cannot threaten someone taking your stuff with a knife for instance.

are you advocating shooting a purse snatcher?

to make it clear, no, if you aren't in danger yourself, you shouldn't be allowed to shoot a thief.

The chances of an 11 yr old in the UK obtaining a firearm is about the same as Duchess64 winning a miss popularity contest amongst white ,right wing American men .
Might shoot him on the back of his neck with a pea-shooter. perhaps .
