Originally posted by robbie carrobie I now have a lady author in my useless collection of chess books which have not managed to add a single rating point to my measly and pathetic on line elo, still theres nothing like the smell of a new book to give one delusions of complete grandeur and a host of ideas that one is likely to forget almost instantly!
I've come to realize that it's not the opening, but what comes after that decides the game. I've played over many of Karpov's Caro Kann games, and sat there shocked as the former world champion used this rather modest opening to beat one strong GM after another into submission.
And if I may suggest...players in the 1800's are NOT measly and pathetic! 🙂
I must admit that I am bored with the book already, its not that it doesn’t contain excellent information and analysis, it does, its just I canny get into it. I must be getting old, endgames are appealing to me more and more.
