So I've been playing in number of Hardcore tournaments lately at 0/21 time control. I notice that in the opening days of the tournament a bunch of people will resign games to each other after 1 or 2 moves. Why is that?

    Different motivations are possible:

    * people could resign against players they thin they ahve no chance against anyway to ease their gameload.

    * people could resign to opponents, they assume play with silicon support

    * people could agree to "gift" each other three points directly (if each one gets a win)

    *...

That assumes at least two moves have been completed by each.
