Maddinson hasn't played well enough - compare Renshaw and Handscomb.
Let's see how this Cartwright goes. They've tried a few in that 3rd seamer, bat 6/7 position over the years and no one has ever stuck. Maybe he can Buck the trend.

Maxwell is the most overrated cricketer In A ...[text shortened]... all the fancy tricks, flicks and ramps - but his defence is lacking and frankly, he bowls pies.
We have to differ on Maxwell.
I just saw some footage from the Aussies recent world cup odi win. His fielding alone is worth a wicket (ran out the last guy )
Sure give the spinners a go but that guy (whassshisname?) can't even turn the ball. May as well just bowl warner or Smith...

    All done v Pakistan. 3 - nil.
I really hope Australia doesn't get carried away with this whitewash.
Seriously I swear I could bowl as well as O'keefe.
That guy will get belted in India. Mark my words.
Thanks for the thread chaps, your insights are interesting

If there was a spot purely for fielding, Maxwell would be a walk up start. His batting and bowling though simply aren't good enough.

O'Keefe is a good ODI/T20 bowler and he can 'tie down' an end in Test Cricket. Doesn't get Top order players out very often though.

Pakistan has had the same problems since they day one.
    1. Cannot find a consistent opening pair.
They can get 1 good opening bat, but have never had 2 together in the same team.
    2. Their fielding is atrocious
    3. They make simple things look ridiculously hard
Running between wickets, Getting the batting order right, field placements, no balls - 1% things that they always get wrong.

That being said, they usually have at least 1 good quick, a good spinner and some classy middle order players. Their keepers are generally pretty good too, and more often than not handy with the stick. They always have the basis for a top class side, it's all the little things that drag them down.

We got to goto India and get wickets, not tie people down.

you fellers off to India? Good luck with that!

An interesting article on Cricinfo recently saying, basically, India are unbeatable on their own wickets at the moment. Would beat a ROW team.

Reluctantly, probably agree with that. Thankfully, last 2 times they toured England, we easily had the upper hand.

You wonder about 'the ratings' when home advantage has such a significant bearing.

Credit to Oz for pulling back from 0-3 in SL, then 0-2 at home to SA, which is almost where my thread started.

Despite a non-cricket fan harping on, England (and no one else) had much chance in India

Australia are absolutely killing them over in India.

Take 7 wickets for 11 runs in a test in India's back yard.

May their woes continue dumbo !!

Dude you must be one hell of a bowler.

O'keefe takes 6 wickets in 24 balls for 5 runs against India (ranked no 1 in the world) in their own backyard.

    Belted ???? Ummmm.............no !!!
