Mashed potatoes are delicious, pea soup is an acquired taste.

    The way they're consumed.
Who ever heard of a bowl of mashed potatoes?
Or is the answer the number of calories in a normal portion?

Both are worth an honorable mention, not the answer

Is it one of those letter swap things?
For example I know this isn't it but would it be something like mashed potatoes fakes you mart and pea soup makes you fart?

    • Mashed potatoes are white, and pea soup is green.
    • Mashed potatoes are served on a plate and pea soup in a bowl.
    • You eat mashed potatoes with a fork and pea soup with a spoon.

    • Mashed potatoes are made from potatoes, whereas pea soup is made from avocados... or peas, if you like it that way.

The main difference besides being a different plant is water, you add water to soup, you add milk or nothing to mashed potatoes.
