A 12 year old girl is forced out of a chess tournament.

You mean people must conform to dress code?

FIDE allows tournament directors to set dress codes. Wonder if she was put in a position where she was forced to withdraw - didn't give her time to actually comply.

Not given enough time to comply. Her dress was very modest. Director wanted her in pants. Read the article.

One wonders about anyone finding a 12 year old seductive?? They all paedo's there or something - or is that what the journalist is trying to infer??

The tourney director originally used the word "seductive".

"‘The tournament director deemed my student’s dress to be “seductive” and a “temptation from a certain angle far, far away”,’ Kal wrote. ‘We found this statement completely out of line!’"

If it was not out of line with dress code regulations, then the guy is on his own. Maybe they can sue him and get some money out of him or FIDE.

A photograph of the girl's dress has been posted to the web. It looked decent to me. The director's call is bizarre.

most probably the journalist was, in light of the current hysteria over paedophilia !
maybe things were somewhat 'lost in translation'.
English may not have been spoken well and a word which in literal translation to English meant 'seductive' was said, which was then taken out of context !
maybe he thought the girls dress was too colourful and the stripes could be distracting to some opponents and unfortunately was not able to communicate this very well due to poor english.

This explains why so few females enjoy playing chess!

It also explains why so few women are as successful at achieving top ratings.


Those jerk judges intimidate females and don't let them compete.
