By following the most successful move for each colour on the red hot pawn games explorer you get 1.c4 ng8f6
    2.g3 nb8a6 3.bf1g2 b5. black wins

By doing the same on master level gets you to 1.b3 d5 2.bc1-b2 ng8f6 3.c4 white wins

    Maybe stats are misleading.

A line that wins 98 games out of a hundred games is statistically 'better than a line that wins 9700 out of 10000. That says absolutely nothing about whether the first line is 'more sound' than the second. Stats are only ever a guide, maybe 96 of those games where kasparov against school children? You don't know till you look...

I've seen in a few DBs the Grob scores high, I think it might be counting a lot of Claude Bloodgood's prison games, which were rated+official.

But then again, maybe 1.b3 isn't such a horrible move after all.

GM Finegold smashes some weaker players with it, a lot of them are analyzed on the Stl. page.

    1. b3 c5 2. Bb2 Nc6 3. e3 e5 4. Bb5 d6 seems to be a pretty strong idea, 1.Nf3 d5 and then 2.b3 seems like the better order.

edit:although I dont know the state of theory on it at all, besides there's not much attempts lately 😛
