Born in Castleford, educated at St Peters School in York and Bradford university qualifying as a pharmacist in 1960 so never left Yorkshire unless on holiday or on military service. Played chess at school not after until moving to Ilkley in 1970 and joining the chess club. I won the club'championship 4 times in the 80s. Left the town and the club in 93 and stopped playing again until I discovered online chess.
