    Some 30,000 refugees are risking life and limb to escape the carnage in Libya by taking to the open seas to reach places like Italy.

    Funny, I don't remember this happening when Qaddafi was in power.

    What responsibility, if any, should Obama and the UN assume here for this humanitarian crisis?

    Thanks for that.

    So on the one hand, Gaddafi was sending people there to "punish" Italy for their involvement with NATO, but today people are just running for their lives.

    How have things improved? Are things now not worse? At best, things are exactly the same, only, ISIS and other terror groups control the region.

    And lastly, most in Libya enjoyed a high standard of living compared to others in the region. That is now a thing of the past.

    When will Obama and the EU assume responsibility for any messes they create?

    Perhaps a few caveats in your implication/story:

    - It did in fact happen when Gaddafi was in power;
    - Most of the refugees are, in fact, not Libyan, but mainly from places like Syria, Somalia and Eritrea;
    - Many refugees instead opt from a route originating not in Libya but in Tunisia, one of the richest and most stable nations in Africa - the reason Libya (or Tunisia) is chosen as a departure station for the maritime route is its proximity to EU territories, in particular the isles of Lampedusa and Malta. Other popular destinations are Spain and Greece;
    - The military mission that contributed to Gaddafi's fall was neither an "Obama [administration]" nor a "UN" mission but a NATO mission where e.g. France played a major role.

    Despite your deflections, whodey's main points remain, that Libya is no more stable despite the military actions of France, NATO, and the US under Obama.
